Sophie Ellis Bextor’s Family Heart Tattoo

Born in April of 1979, Sophie Ellis-Bextor has had a very diverse career in entertainment. First finding success in the 1990s as the lead singer of indie rockers Theaudience, Bextor has since forged an impressive solo resume as a singer, songwriter, model, and club DJ. As for her tattoo resume, it’s significantly shorter than her entertainment one. She only has one work of ink on her body; a heart with a banner reading “Family” across it. Sitting on her right arm, the tattoo is a simple proclamation of her love of her relatives, and looks very understated and strangely classy on her. Is that a bright red or is that a bright red? I bet that she had that color refreshed more than a few times. Bright color always does something for a decent tattoo to improve its boldness. It is bold but it looks lonely there. There’s pretty heavy odds that we won’t be seeing much from her in future in regards to body art, just maybe, but her career is still going strong, so we will for sure come to know that little heart more intimately.

Tim Armstrong – Punk Rocker with Skull and Spider Web Tattoos No Less

neck and arms

Tim Armstrong is a punk music legend. Born in Berkely, California in 1965, he’s been part of such acts as Operation Ivy, The Transplants, and Downfall, but he’s most famous as the lead singer and founder of Rancid, which you may remember from the early 90s when they became somewhat well-known (that’s big time for a punk band). He also founded and co-owns Hellcat Records. It should be no surprise that this rocker is covered in tattoos. His biggest and most famous piece is the spider web on top of his head, which he’s had things added to over the years, making it a constant work in progress. He also has extensive work on both arms. The tattoos on his left arm include, a bracelet of skulls on his wrist, the “Hellcat Records” logo on his forearm, a large skull, and a spider web on his elbow; while the tattoos on his right arm include, a big skull on his bicep (which was done to cover his ex wife’s name “Brody”) and large rose on the inside of his forearm. He also has a spider on the left side of his neck, the letters “PUNX” on the knuckles of his left hand, and “U.S. Thugs” on his stomach. He still tours with his various bands and is a fixture in the punk community, so he will probably never stop getting ink, so keep an eye on the ever changing canvas that is Tim Armstrong.

Alexandra Tydings – Aphrodite’s Hidden Tattoos

Born in Washington DC in 1972, Alexandra Tydings is best known for playing the role of Aphrodite (the Greek Goddess) on geek favorites; Hercules:The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. She look different without the big blond curly wig. No you wouldn’t have seen her tats on the TV because that wouldn’t quite fit in with ancient Greek culture. I bet that would be a pain to have the makeup department cover up her ink every day of shooting. Usually, they simply covered it with a pink band. These days, she doesn’t do much acting, and instead teaching a “Rock and Roll Aerobics” class at a gym in DC, where she’s married and has two kids, but she still bares the marks of her younger days as a model and actress on her skin. On her right arm, she has a Celtic band that she designed herself, while on her left shoulder blade, she has a fairy, which she also drew up on her own. Settled down outside of the spotlight, and with two kids on her arm, it’s unlikely Alexandra will be getting anymore ink in the future, so we wish her good luck and minimal color fading as she gets older.

Ashley Scott’s Phoenix and Whoops Tattoo

Born In Louisiana in 1977, Ashley Scott has made her mark on the acting world in the last decade with roles on television series like Birds of Prey, Jericho and Dark Angel, and in films like Into the Blue and Walking Tall. However, a tattoo artist made his mark on her body long before that. Ashley has two tattoos: the first of which being a phoenix on her lower back that she got when she was only 16! It features the Chinese symbols for strength, destiny, love, and courage, and was done by an unspecified cast member from Miami Ink before he was famous. Good work, people can’t usually be trusted to make tasteful decisions at 16 but this one worked out. Her other tattoo is equally interesting, but for somewhat negative reasons. It’s a simple piece on the back of her neck that has a little flower and her initials… from when she was married to her now ex-husband. Yup, she has “A.S.R.” on her neck, and it stands for “Ashley Scott-Rhulen”, whoops. More power to her though for not trying to get a cover-up and not having it removed. It would be off balance if she just removed it. She might be waiting for the new man, if his last name starts with “R” then everything is dandy, if not, she can have it lazered and changed to another letter. If she needs to change it to “P” or “B” no problem. Some letters like “Q” or “W” will take a little more effort. Either way, she’s a gorgeous girl, inaccurate tattoo and all.

Aimee Sweet’s Spade Tattoo

If there’s one job that having a very visible tattoo won’t get you fired from, it’s adult entertainment. Aimee Sweet is in luck, because that’s the main thing that the model and actress is known for: her adult film career. Surprisingly enough, the tall, red haired beauty, who has appeared in Perfect 10, High Society, Leg World, Club, and Penthouse magazines, only has one tattoo. She has a fairly large, but not huge, spade symbol on her right hip/lower abdominal area, and that’s it. She wears the tattoo well, and proves that you don’t have to be distasteful to be dirty. The spade comes from the deck of cards and symbolizes the feminine and strength. Is she the Ace of Spades? Where is the Queen of Hearts? Wouldn’t that be more appropriate? Maybe she’s a gambler and when her adult career is over she can concentrate on the tables in Las Vegas, flipping over spades, aces, and all the cards in just the right order to rake in the chips.

Kate Del Castillo’s Tummy Tat

stomach

Kate Del Castillo has made a name for herself as one of Mexico’s most acclaimed actresses, starring in over ten telanovelas (Spanish soap operas) during her twenty year career. She’s also made the jump to acting in American films, co-starring in movies like Bordertown with fellow star of the Latin community Jennifer Lopez. When it comes to tattoos, she doesn’t have many, but she’s got a couple. Her most famous is the little tribal one she has under her belly button, which looks kind of like a comet, or half of a ying-yang symbol. Her newest tattoo is the “pi” symbol on the back of her left- shoulder. I doubt it’s representative of her love of math and really long numbers, so it’s more than likely that it’s the Greek letter for “P” and that it stands for something close to her heart. What she has is fun enough but they seem like teasers. Given the size and number of her current tattoos, odds are that we won’t be seeing much more from her in the future, and we probably shouldn’t, tattoos just don’t seem to fit her. Prove us wrong Kate, just do it.

Keyshia Cole – A Heart with a Stake Through it and More

big stake

Hip-Hop Soul singer Keyshia Cole first gained success when her debut album The Way It Is reached platinum status in 2005. Since then, her career has had it’s ups and downs, but one thing that has remained consistent is her love of tattoos. Keyshia has at least five tattoos that we know of. She has one on her neck that says, “Have Faith” with a small red heart next to it. She also has a heart and a tear drop on her left hand, a teddy bear on her right ankle, a rose with flames on her left wrist, and “Truly Blessed, D.Gibson” on her left shoulder (it’s in honor of her husband, NBA player Daniel Gibson). However, her biggest piece of body art is on her right arm. At quick glance, it looks like the birth of a jellyfish, but on further inspection, it’s a heart with a stake going into it, set on a star. That sounds like a bad idea, but when you look at it, it turned out alright. That wooden stake was a strange choice but there it is going through a big black heart that looks like a plum. There were rumors that she was going to stop getting ink in order shed her “ghetto image”, but with tattoos rapidly becoming more acceptable to the masses, there’s nothing ghetto about her, and she will probably get more in the future.

Bow Wow’s Tattoos – Prince of the O-Town

head glasses

Born Shad Gregory Moss in 1987, Bow Wow started out his career at the age of thirteen as “Lil’ Bow Wow”, releasing his first album “Beware of Dog”. He soon entered the acting world with roles in films like “All About The Benjamins” and “Like Mike”, and also soon started entering tattoo shops. He’s tattooed mainly on his arms, but his most prominent piece is on his chest; a script banner reading “Prince of the O-Town”, O-Town refers to Columbus, Ohio where he was raised. Amongst the tattoos on his left arm are a large clown, the letter “B”, and a money bag. On his right arm, he has things like the praying hands of Jesus, a prayer, a vertical line of old English style letters, and a paw print. Scattered around the rest of his body are works that include a rose, dice with flames, dollar signs,  a heart/diamond/spade/club combo, the phrase “Only God can judge me”, his mothers name and face, a flaming skull, and the words, “Boy Wonder”. He seems pretty invested at this point, so it’s only a matter of time before he has two full sleeves and a full back piece, but who can blame him? He likes to get ink, and it’s not like he’s going to get fired from his job…as a rapper…for being too inked up.

Bow Wow those magic tats did nothing to help you in the hoops showdown with Kobe but you might have won the battle of best ink art.

Lauren Conrad’s Little Secret Letter Tattoos

Lauren Conrad rose to fame with her starring role on the reality series “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County” and later with her role it’s spin-off “The Hills”. Since then, she has found success as a fashion designer, and an author with her “L.A. Candy” trilogy. However, despite her success, she has one gleaming failure: her tattoo. The “L” she has tattooed on wrist stands for…you guessed it…”Lauren”(I just felt you shake your head in disgust). It gets better though, the “L” used to be a “J”, and it was her ex-boyfriends initial! It’s hard to tell what’s worse, tattooing a significant other’s initial on you, or having it covered with your own initial. At least if she kept it, she could have said it was to remind her of her mistakes and sounded deep and introspective. Lauren Conrad may have escaped the shadow of her own reality television fame, but she should have escaped the tattoo artists chair. But why not change it to “LA” or just go ahead and put a rose or a dragon or something on top of it.

50 Cent – Laser Treatments to Remove His Tattoos

front

50 Cent real name Curtis James Jackson III, was born July 6, 1975 in South Jamaica, Queens NY.  He is best known as a rapper but has been moving more and more into films recently. He first appeared on the scene in 2003 with the release of ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’ which has gone on to sell a total of 15 million copies worldwide. That smash was soon followed by ‘The Massacre’ in 2005 which went on the sell an impressive 11 million copies. 50 Cent is one of the rare artists who have made it from the streets to the highest successes of fame. He started out as a drug dealer when he was just 12 years old. He had a passion for rapping and decided to pursue the music business. In 2000 50 was shot nine times. After surviving that incident he went on to record an album titled  ‘Guess Who’s Back?’ in 2002. The record caught the attention of Eminem who signed him to Interscope Records.

Recently 50 Cent was having his tattoos removed with laser treatments. 50 said he underwent the painful laser treatments to remove most of his tattoos because he was tired of the hours he spent in the makeup chair covering them up for his movie roles.

back

This large back piece was done by the tattoo artist Cartoon and says South Side. That’s one big 50, with another 50 on his arm just in case you missed the big one and forgot who this was. He’s got some angels and demons too.
