Daniel Day-Lewis Has Sleeves!

daniel day-;ewis tattoos

Here’s something I had no idea about: Daniel Day-Lewis has a bunch of tattoos!

daniel day-lewis sleaves

The multiple Academy Award winner lives a very reclusive lifestyle when he’s not on set, so we often forget he even exists until Oscar time. However, his tattoos artist must see him pretty often, because he’s got two semi-done sleeves on his arms!

From the looks of it, Lewis’ tattoos include his sons’ hand prints, a small cross (he got it to commemorate his work on “The Crucible”), two Polynesian tribal armbands, a star, a mermaid, and a serpent. The major acting star doesn’t seem like the type to have so much ink, but he must love sitting in the chair, because he’s got just as much as the next guy! Good job Daniel!

Rob McElhenney’s Tribute Tattoo to Bill Cosby

always-sunny-bill-cosby-tattoo-rob

I’ve told you before about how bad Rob McElhenney’s are; the “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” star and creator has some of the worst ink that any of us have ever seen on a celebrity. However, there was one that we apparently didn’t notice the first time we reviewed his collection of bad body art: a tattoo of Bill Cosby…yes, from the “Cosby Show”, “Fat Albert”, and now unfortunately all those horrible allegations. Full disclosure: I’ve yet to figure out whether the piece is real or fake, and since it’s April Fools’ Day I’m sorry if I’m tricking you. It’s ridiculous nonetheless; especially because of Rob’s efforts to cover it up by making it into a dedication to David Crosby (he of “…Stills and Nash” fame) by adding an “R” to the wording and a mustache to the picture. I don’t care if it’s real, because it’s too great of an idea to matter. Great job Rob!

Jessie J’s Tato Is Misspelled

jessie-J-tattooIn the last few years, Jessie J has established herself as one of the most talented young singers in the pop music game; with songs that are both catchy and surprisingly well crafted. However, one of her four tattoos (we’ll discuss the other ones a little later, they’re nothing to write home about) doesn’t possess the same production value as her hits “Domino” and “Bang Bang”; instead, it contains a pretty big spelling mistake. The ink in question is the rather large piece that she has on her right hip; it’s meant to be some stars and the phrase “Don’t lose yourself in the glare of star”, but there’s an extra “O” in “Lose”, making it “loose”. This is a worse spelling error than a missing letter or even a jumble, because due to something the internet has dubbed “typoglycemia” our brains are pretty good at processing minor misspellings as the intended words, but an entirely different word is written on her body, so most people would just read her ink as-is. Jessie told interview Graham Norton that she plans on having the mistake covered up in the future, but that for now she wears high waisted pants more often than not in order to conceal the mistaken body art. The writer of “Party In The USA” has some other ink too, and it’s mistake free, so that’s good. Let’s take a look at the rest of her body work…jessie-j-stars-hip-tattooBehind her left ear she has two music notes forming a heart; she said that she had it done because she wanted a tattoo that showed she loved music. It’s not original and it’s not big, but it’s perfectly fine.jessie-j-music-notes-behind-ear-tattooShe also has the words “Stand Up” with a little heart under them on her right wrist; it’s simply the name of one of her songs and probably an ideal that she believes in. She seems like the type of girl who doesn’t back down from much; judging by her strong career, I’m probably right about her. jessie-j-stand-up-wrist-tattooThis last one is a little stick figure meditating and throwing up a peace sign. It’s meant to help her relax and is most likely placed so that she can see it when she sits cross-legged. It’s a little too simple for my tastes, but it’s a nice idea and you can’t hate on it when a tattoo has an actual purpose in the owner’s life. jessie-j-stick-figure-ankle-tattooSo despite having a major mistake on one her pieces, Jessie J’s collection of tattoos is small but nice, and they all have meaning. You can never hate on someone when they’re ink means something to them, so even though she doesn’t have the best body art I’ve ever seen, I dig it all. Good job Jessie, and good luck with the cover-up.

Drake+Ink = Drinks?

drake-face-tatYou can’t write an article about Drake’s tattoos without mentioning two things: he was the kid from Degrassi, and a fan once inked his name on her friggin’ forehead. That’s her in the picture above, and she always needs to be mentioned, because until the day the “Started From The Bottom” rapper tattoos “That Girl Who Tattooed My Name On Her Face” on his own forehead, no body art related to Drake will ever top her tat. So now that her permanent mark of fandom and his former life as a teen actor are out of the way, let’s talk about the ink that adorns the body of the popular hip-hop act…drake-416-tattooLet’s start with his dual hometown/favorite singer tribute, the “416” on his side. The ink not only represents the area code of his hometown of Toronto, Ontario Canada, it also is shaded so as to represent “116”, the birthday (January 16th) of late singer Aaliyah, whose work Drake is an admittedly huge fan of. She also appears on his back piece, but we’ll get to that a little later. The rib work is actually very well done, and has a nice little meaning to it, it huge too, unlike his arm work…drake-all-kinds-tattooNext up we have the little piece of ink that sits on the inside of his right arm, which was apparently his first. The tat says “All Kinds”, which seems to be short for “It takes all kinds.”, a cliched statement that Drake and his buddies apparently use pretty often. There’s nothing wrong with the ink, it’s just kind of small and makes us worry that Drake thinks he made that phrase up. Anyhow, back to the back…drake-back-tattooYup, that’s Drake’s back, which appears to have a portrait of Aaliyah (he intends to release an album with the deceased icon through the magic of music production at some point), a portrait of his mom, a portrait of his late uncle, a portrait of his grandma, a dove, and an owl that looks like the robot from the original “Clash Of The Titans”. It’s all nicely done work, and all of it means a lot to the “Best I Ever Had” singer, so we’re cool with his back piece(s)…well all of them except…drake-houston-star-tattooThat looks a lot more like the old Tommy Hilfiger logo than anything representing Houston (that’s what it’s supposed to be), but it takes all kinds, right?drake-tattoo-father-mugshotSpeaking of all kinds, Drake’s father has spent a good portion of the Canadian star’s life in and out of prison, so as a tribute to a man he has an admittedly strained relationship with, he has a mini-portrait of his dad’s mugshot on his arm. It’s actually a cool little piece and it’s always nice to see people bonding through ink, so we’re like it, we don’t like his most recent tattoo though…drake-emoji-tattooLook, we have no problem with the little blurb, we have a small problem with someone referring to themselves as “6 God” (that’s what the “6” represents), and we have a big problem with someone representing something as complex as their religious views with a friggin’ Emoji. Yeah, that’s what that is, and we don’t like it, but again, it takes all kinds…is that joke dead yet? Anyhow, Drake’s overall body of tattoo work is pretty solid, so we give him props for most of his art and the meanings behind it, but this last one makes us question his decision making process, so we wouldn’t be surprised is someday his face tattoo is the first thing we talk about when we reference him. Time will tell is he ever surpasses his fan’s face tat, but until then…it takes all kinds! Yeah! One more for the road!

Melanie Griffith Is Gettng Antonio Off Her Arm

melanie-griffith-tattoo-removal-pictures

It’s been a celebrity tattoo removal kind of time around here folks. We recently told you about Adrienne Baillon’s decision to get her Rob Kardashian butt tattoo taken off with a new laser treatment, and now we’ve another female celebrity who wants nothing to do with having her exe’s name inked on her body. This time it’s a little more weird though, also this time it’s someone who probably didn’t instantly regret her body art; it’s Melanie Griffith. The “Automata” star recently divorced her husband of fifteen years, Antonio Banderas, and she’s decided that she no longer wants his name to be prominently displayed on her arm. We imagine that when she initially got the tattoo done, she thought it was a great idea, their marriage was strong for a really long time, but unfortunately she was wrong and now her symbol of love is a symbol of failure. We still didn’t get to the weird part though…melanie-griffith-tattoo-removalMel’s removal of her heart with “Antonio” in the center tattoo seems to be off to a good start, as the laser procedure has already made his name almost, if not totally, invisible. However, she’s decided that the best way to cover-up her laser site is with a bandage with her name on it…yeah, it says “Mel”. She’s got it positioned in such a way as if to replace his name with hers; we guess that this is some sort of “love yourself before you love others” type of statement, but since she’s not a teenager, it makes her look kind of crazy. It’s very possible that she’s leaving the rest of the heart and plans on getting her kids names or initials inside of it, but if she’s thinking about getting her own name put in there…she needs to reconsider. Getting your own name put on your body is always a suspect tattoo decision, but getting it inside of a heart? That’s just plain strange.melanie-griffith-tattoo-removal-before-afterMelanie Griffith is a really talented lady, and we’re really upset for her that her marriage didn’t work out. However, seeing as how she already has way too much plastic surgery, permanently scarring her body with a bad tattoo is not the way to cope with the big changes in her life. We understand having the laser removal, but she needs to be careful with her next step. We hope that she’s just having a momentary lapse into scorned woman territory, because she’s too mature and too much of a celebrity to be making avoidable mistake in her tattoo design. Be strong Mel, bad ink is never the answer!

Miley Gets Heart On Her Sleeve

o-MILEY-CYRUS-VMA-570 So the old folks like to say that Miley Cyrus is in the middle of some kind of drastic fall from grace because she keeps getting ink and new haircuts and getting engaged and possibly un-engaged. However, us young folks (well…younger folks at least) like to think that if we were barely in our twenties and had millions of dollars in the bank, we’d have died in some sort of bus full of strippers-related accident , so her going through a better funded version of everyone’s quarter-life crisis isn’t even kind of a big deal. The girl is clearly going through her punk rock phase, and there’s nothing wrong with that; her new tattoos also give us things to write about, so we’re nothing but happy with her. article-0-18B6CC39000005DC-117_634x634 The artist formerly known as Hannah Montanna was recently spotted rocking her litle boy haircut and a grown woman piece of ink, and amidst rumors of her engagement dissolving, we’ve got some theories about it. The new tattoo was done by “LA Ink” star Kat Von D, and it’s a miniture rendition of Leonardo Di Vinci’s “Anatomical Heart”. It’s a very well done piece of work, that perfectly copies the original art (Kat Von D may have some personal problems, but the lady knows her needles), but it’s placement and meaning are a bit peculiar to us. Untitled-1 We get that the heart is literally on her sleeve and we’re cool with that message, but what we don’t get is why she put it so close to her older Roman numeral piece. We’re unsure if they’re meant to function as one piece or not. If they are, then the nail has been cracked on the head, but if they’re not, then she should’ve considered her placement better. We also don’t know if the ink was done as a reaction her current emotional state, or whether it’s an overall statement on her attitude. If it’s the former, then we fear she might regret it a bit someday; we’ve all got at least one like that though, so really who are we to judge ? Untitled-2 Like we said before, the new ink is very well done, and it joins a now large list of pieces on the starlet’s body. She already has the word “love” on her ear, some crossed arrows on her back, a bunch of little symbols on her fingers (cross, heart, peace, and equals signs to be exact), “just breathe” on her chest, and a FDR quote on her arm (it goes with a piece that Liam Hemsworth has). At this point, no new ink she come as a shock to anyone, but we’ll keep reporting on Miley’s forrays into body art, because that’s what we’re here for! 16-12-VH1-Divas-Performance-miley-cyrus-33073539-2087-3000

Adele’s Body Art

If Adele is one thing, it’s talented. If Adele is two things; one is definitely talented, and the other isn’t “good at picking creative tattoos”. In a recent appearance at the 2013 Grammy Awards, the “Set Fire To The Rain” singer and former dominator of the biggest butt kissing contest in the music industry debuted her new ink and didn’t really impress anyone. To be clear, the sentiment behind it was nothing but sweet, it’s just the execution that we find to be lacking.

The new ink is a simple “A” written in script on the side of her head, right behind her right ear. It’s very small and doesn’t draw a lot of attention, which is fine, but it’s also…just…so…lazy. We’re almost one hundred percent sure that the piece was done in honor of her son Angelo, which we think is great. You’re never going to go wrong when you get ink in honor of one of your kids; significant others can go leave and friends can bail, but your children should be forever, so it’s a pretty safe bet to pay tribute to them on your body. She’s shown public love for him before in the form of flashy jewelry and you know, by loving him; so it should come as no surprise that she’s decided to put his initial on her body.

What does come as a surprise is that someone with the talent and creativity of Adele didn’t get something more artistic than a simple letter. We would’ve expected an angel, or maybe some other type of symbol that represents her son’s name and/or role in her life. However, it kind of makes sense for someone as elegant as her to get something really simple, so we’re not totally shocked by her choice.

We don’t really see her having much more done in the way of tattoos in her future, but maybe she’ll wind up with something on her wrist like a small tribute to her husband or something. The wrist is a popular spot for classy ladies to get ink done. Also, if she ends up with another kid, she might have to get some more ink done to keep things even in her household. Time will tell whether Adele decides to have more art put on her body, but we hope that if she does she chooses something more complex than a simple letter.

Josh Hutcherson – Anchor’s Away!

That’s some anchor tattoo Josh! Wow…that’s just a whole lot of nautical themed ink on the body of “Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson, and we’re not quite sure why. The pictures that we have show him on the set of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, looking pretty ripped and doing some sort of scuba work or surfing…or just wearing a wet suit because he’s feeling frisky  Whatever reason he’s dressed like a seal, he still rocking a very serious anchor piece of his side; even co-star Jennifer Lawrence seems to be surprised by the mass of his ink. The Academy Award nominated actress doesn’t have any known ink of her own, but she doesn’t seem like the type to give Josh any guff about his choice of body art. However, Hutcherson himself seems to have mixed feelings about his life in ink.

The “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” star currently has three tattoos on his body. He has the aforementioned giant anchor with red tips on his side, a Libra symbol on his wrist, and a ship on his back; he planned on getting more, but now it seems like that idea has been taken off the table. In May of 2012, Hutcherson did an interview in which he stated that he loved body art and that he was going to get a whole lot more of it put on his body. Being only 19 at the time and having gotten his first work done when he was just 16, it seemed like the sky was the limit for his body as a canvas. However, weeks later he went on record as saying that he was going to cut it out with the ink until he was a more established star. Citing mega-star Angelina Jolie as his prime example of a star who waited until she was established to get crazy with the needle (that doesn’t sound good, but you know what we’re talking about), the “Red Dawn” actor said that he wasn’t going to give casting directors an excuse to excuse him from considerations.

So with all of that said, we can’t tell you what the future holds for Josh Hutcherson’s body art, but we can speculate. He’s a pretty talented kid, and he’s making a fortune off his work in the “Hunger Games”, so we expect that he’ll find himself not too worried about his career within a few years, and he’ll start getting inked up again. Time will tell, and we’ll keep you posted!

Ke$ha’s New Bad Idea Ink

Alright folks, we’ve talked about Kesha’s tattoo obsession before (we know, it’s spelled Ke$sha, but none of that is a word, so we’re going to spell it like a real name), and as with everything about her, it’s kind of wierd and annoying. Just to recap; apparently Kesha keeps a tattoo gun on her just about all the time, despite not being a qualified tattoo artist. So, when you happen to decide to go visit her for a party, or to play video games, or to trade face-painting secrets; she can and will give you a random bad tattoo. That’s kind of insane, and just a bit gross. So with that said, it should come as no surprise that she had a tattoo artist ( a real one) at her recent birthday party.

Celebrating her 25th birthday at a party that had both a trampoline and photo booth, Kesha decided to commemorate the epic bash by getting her foot inked by the resident skin tagger. Because she had so much fun at the party, she of course got “fun” tattooed on herself…that’s stupid. Okay, maybe we’re being a little harsh, but the tattoo seems overly simplistic to the point of being annoying. She seems like the type of person who would get that tattoo just so people would ask her about it and she’d get more attention. Now we guess that it’s not hugely different than when someone gets Kanji words, but that’s an artistic language, so words look nice; English is clunky and mechanical, not the language you want to ink singular words from. She should’ve gotten a mini-trampoline, or some party balloons, or anything else that isn’t just the word “fun”. It’s not even artistically done, it’s just printed on there.

We will however give her some credit for having a tattoo artist at her party. It’s kind of a funny idea to have someone ready to ink people at an event where everyone is drunk and making poor decisions. Kesha also made some recent tattoo news when she inked her lip a few months back. She got the words “Suck It” scrawled into the inside of her mouth, so that when she decides to randomly open her lips up and show the world, we all know how she really feels.  We are unsure of what exactly she wants people to perform said action on, but we’re going to assume she’s referring to some sort of candy, like a Jolly Rancher or something.

Keep Up With Khloe Kardashian’s Tattoos

Khloe Kardashian is easily the least annoying member of The Keeping Up With Kardashians cast (we refuse to admit that Olympic Hero Bruce Jenner is even involved with that circus, let alone that show), so we’re actually kind of upset that we’ve got to call her out on her bad tattoo, but we also like her other ink, so it’ll all even out.

Let’s start with the bad and we’ll get to the good later. Khloe has admitted in interviews that although all of her tattoos hold special meaning to her, she still regrets one of them…or at least it’s peculiar placement. The tattoo itself is a cross with “Daddy” written over it in honor of her late father Robert Kardashian, which is a wonderful. However, it’s a big ole’ tramp stamp…which is actually really weird when you think about it. It’s so inappropriate that when we first saw it we thought it was some sort of weird ode to a guy she once had a fling with. We were wrong though, it it’s for her actual father. Like we said, we’ll never crap on someone for showing parental love with their ink, but she really should’ve thought the placement through a whole lot more.

Her best tattoo is also dedicated to her father, so that makes up for the atrocity on her lower back. She has “I Love You” scrawled on her right wrist; a simple statement by itself, but when you factor in that she has it in her father’s handwriting, it’s a really great piece of work. There’s so much right about the idea and the execution behind this ink that we really started to forget about the tramp-stamp the moment we saw it.

Her last and latest tattoo is a dedication to her husband, NBA star Lamar Odom. She has his intials (“LO”…duh) inked on her left hand to show her love for her Khloe & Lamar partner. He has her initials inked in the same spot on his hand, making this tattoo another nicely executed bit on sentiment.

Overall, Khloe Kardashian is batting .666 with her tattoo choices, which is good enough for us. However, considering how much money she has coming in, and how unhappy she seems with her lower back piece, we think she should spring for a removal procedure. She should for sure get the tattoo redone somewhere else on her body (maybe her shoulder blade?), but it shouldn’t live in its current home. Khloe Kardashian still manages to be the most endearing member of the Kardashians, and she’s a laser and a needle away from having a very successful tattoo portfolio that’s filled with love and quality work.
