You can’t write an article about Drake’s tattoos without mentioning two things: he was the kid from Degrassi, and a fan once inked his name on her friggin’ forehead. That’s her in the picture above, and she always needs to be mentioned, because until the day the “Started From The Bottom” rapper tattoos “That Girl Who Tattooed My Name On Her Face” on his own forehead, no body art related to Drake will ever top her tat. So now that her permanent mark of fandom and his former life as a teen actor are out of the way, let’s talk about the ink that adorns the body of the popular hip-hop act…Let’s start with his dual hometown/favorite singer tribute, the “416” on his side. The ink not only represents the area code of his hometown of Toronto, Ontario Canada, it also is shaded so as to represent “116”, the birthday (January 16th) of late singer Aaliyah, whose work Drake is an admittedly huge fan of. She also appears on his back piece, but we’ll get to that a little later. The rib work is actually very well done, and has a nice little meaning to it, it huge too, unlike his arm work…Next up we have the little piece of ink that sits on the inside of his right arm, which was apparently his first. The tat says “All Kinds”, which seems to be short for “It takes all kinds.”, a cliched statement that Drake and his buddies apparently use pretty often. There’s nothing wrong with the ink, it’s just kind of small and makes us worry that Drake thinks he made that phrase up. Anyhow, back to the back…Yup, that’s Drake’s back, which appears to have a portrait of Aaliyah (he intends to release an album with the deceased icon through the magic of music production at some point), a portrait of his mom, a portrait of his late uncle, a portrait of his grandma, a dove, and an owl that looks like the robot from the original “Clash Of The Titans”. It’s all nicely done work, and all of it means a lot to the “Best I Ever Had” singer, so we’re cool with his back piece(s)…well all of them except…That looks a lot more like the old Tommy Hilfiger logo than anything representing Houston (that’s what it’s supposed to be), but it takes all kinds, right?Speaking of all kinds, Drake’s father has spent a good portion of the Canadian star’s life in and out of prison, so as a tribute to a man he has an admittedly strained relationship with, he has a mini-portrait of his dad’s mugshot on his arm. It’s actually a cool little piece and it’s always nice to see people bonding through ink, so we’re like it, we don’t like his most recent tattoo though…Look, we have no problem with the little blurb, we have a small problem with someone referring to themselves as “6 God” (that’s what the “6” represents), and we have a big problem with someone representing something as complex as their religious views with a friggin’ Emoji. Yeah, that’s what that is, and we don’t like it, but again, it takes all kinds…is that joke dead yet? Anyhow, Drake’s overall body of tattoo work is pretty solid, so we give him props for most of his art and the meanings behind it, but this last one makes us question his decision making process, so we wouldn’t be surprised is someday his face tattoo is the first thing we talk about when we reference him. Time will tell is he ever surpasses his fan’s face tat, but until then…it takes all kinds! Yeah! One more for the road!
So Jwoww is still a thing we’re still talking about in 2014? Yeah? Okay cool, just making sure because I already laid out the pictures and did the “research” for this article, so it would be a shame if I found out now that we’re not talking about the cast of “Jersey Shore” anymore. With that said, let’s talk about Jenni Farley’s new ink, because unlike a lot of the decisions that we’ve seen her make over the years, this one seems to be a good one…at least in my eyes. The new tattoo that is adorning the reality stars upper back/shoulder blade is one of the best kind: a dedication to her child. The tattoo, which is the “Snooki & Jwoww” star’s daughter Meilani Alexandra’s name surrounding her foot prints is your standard baby dedication fare, but it’s definitely well done. The intention is obviously great too, as it commemorates the existence of someone who will always be important to her; this isn’t a “I Heart Wanda” kind of dedication that may be regretted someday, this is her first child! As the title of the article suggests, the new ink is done to match the piece done on her future husband Roger Mathew’s ribs, and both pieces really do look nice. This isn’t the first tattoo for either Jenni or Roger, as both have gotten pretty extensive ink done in the past. Roger is basically covered, with two sleeves and a huge back piece, as well as the gun he has inked on his hip, while Jenni has a large cross on her shoulder and a big ole’ tiger on her hip. The tattooed couple seems to be staying in shape as they enter their thirties, so their ink should age pretty well and they will most likely continue to have tats done well into their futures. I love making fun of the cast of that horrid cesspool of a show, but this isn’t a time when I have that opportunity, because Jenni and Roger’s new ink id more than okay in my book, and I have nothing but congratulations for them on the birth of their baby girl!
Well it looks like Selena Gomez is all grown up… or at least her body of body art would point to that being the case. The “Come And Get It” (everyone in the office agreed that if we had a daughter who sung that song, we’d be really upset) singer recently added to her tattoo collection when she visited famed artist Bang Bang McCurdy’s shop in New York City and had some work done on her back. The new piece is in Arabic and says something to the effect of “Love Yourself First”, which most likely has something to do with her still getting over her storied relationship with pop prince and all around terrible person Justin Bieber. The two were so close, that at one point they were rumored to be getting matching ink, but just like their relationship, the idea went away. The new tat is her fourth, but all together she probably only has a couple of hours of work on her, if not less. Regardless, let’s take a look at her other ink…
Her first tattoo was the tiny little guy that you see above on her wrist. It’s a music note and…well…that’s really all there is to it. It’s a tiny music note and it looks like a tiny music note. It couldn’t have cost her more that a hundred bucks and probably took less than half an hour to do.
The “Behaving Badly” star followed that note up with a bigger piece (also done by Bang Bang) on the back of her neck. She got the Roman Numerals “LXXVI”, which translates into “76”. That’s the year her mother was born and Gomez is rightfully close to her supportive mama.
Her third tat was done in 2013 and is a bible verse going down her hip. It’s Philippians 4:13 reference, a bible quote which states “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”. The actual piece says “God who strengthens me”. It’s a simple piece, but it sits well on her body and should stay nicely if she takes care of herself. Actually, all of her ink is “nice”, just none of it is impressive. She just “has some tattoos”, she’s not “tattooed”. If that makes sense to you, then you’re tattooed. If it doesn’t…well then you might be Selena Gomez, and we wish you the best of luck in your future inkings!
That’s some anchor tattoo Josh! Wow…that’s just a whole lot of nautical themed ink on the body of “Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson, and we’re not quite sure why. The pictures that we have show him on the set of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, looking pretty ripped and doing some sort of scuba work or surfing…or just wearing a wet suit because he’s feeling frisky Whatever reason he’s dressed like a seal, he still rocking a very serious anchor piece of his side; even co-star Jennifer Lawrence seems to be surprised by the mass of his ink. The Academy Award nominated actress doesn’t have any known ink of her own, but she doesn’t seem like the type to give Josh any guff about his choice of body art. However, Hutcherson himself seems to have mixed feelings about his life in ink.
The “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” star currently has three tattoos on his body. He has the aforementioned giant anchor with red tips on his side, a Libra symbol on his wrist, and a ship on his back; he planned on getting more, but now it seems like that idea has been taken off the table. In May of 2012, Hutcherson did an interview in which he stated that he loved body art and that he was going to get a whole lot more of it put on his body. Being only 19 at the time and having gotten his first work done when he was just 16, it seemed like the sky was the limit for his body as a canvas. However, weeks later he went on record as saying that he was going to cut it out with the ink until he was a more established star. Citing mega-star Angelina Jolie as his prime example of a star who waited until she was established to get crazy with the needle (that doesn’t sound good, but you know what we’re talking about), the “Red Dawn” actor said that he wasn’t going to give casting directors an excuse to excuse him from considerations.
So with all of that said, we can’t tell you what the future holds for Josh Hutcherson’s body art, but we can speculate. He’s a pretty talented kid, and he’s making a fortune off his work in the “Hunger Games”, so we expect that he’ll find himself not too worried about his career within a few years, and he’ll start getting inked up again. Time will tell, and we’ll keep you posted!
Khloe Kardashian is easily the least annoying member of The Keeping Up With Kardashians cast (we refuse to admit that Olympic Hero Bruce Jenner is even involved with that circus, let alone that show), so we’re actually kind of upset that we’ve got to call her out on her bad tattoo, but we also like her other ink, so it’ll all even out.
Let’s start with the bad and we’ll get to the good later. Khloe has admitted in interviews that although all of her tattoos hold special meaning to her, she still regrets one of them…or at least it’s peculiar placement. The tattoo itself is a cross with “Daddy” written over it in honor of her late father Robert Kardashian, which is a wonderful. However, it’s a big ole’ tramp stamp…which is actually really weird when you think about it. It’s so inappropriate that when we first saw it we thought it was some sort of weird ode to a guy she once had a fling with. We were wrong though, it it’s for her actual father. Like we said, we’ll never crap on someone for showing parental love with their ink, but she really should’ve thought the placement through a whole lot more.
Her best tattoo is also dedicated to her father, so that makes up for the atrocity on her lower back. She has “I Love You” scrawled on her right wrist; a simple statement by itself, but when you factor in that she has it in her father’s handwriting, it’s a really great piece of work. There’s so much right about the idea and the execution behind this ink that we really started to forget about the tramp-stamp the moment we saw it.
Her last and latest tattoo is a dedication to her husband, NBA star Lamar Odom. She has his intials (“LO”…duh) inked on her left hand to show her love for her Khloe & Lamar partner. He has her initials inked in the same spot on his hand, making this tattoo another nicely executed bit on sentiment.
Overall, Khloe Kardashian is batting .666 with her tattoo choices, which is good enough for us. However, considering how much money she has coming in, and how unhappy she seems with her lower back piece, we think she should spring for a removal procedure. She should for sure get the tattoo redone somewhere else on her body (maybe her shoulder blade?), but it shouldn’t live in its current home. Khloe Kardashian still manages to be the most endearing member of the Kardashians, and she’s a laser and a needle away from having a very successful tattoo portfolio that’s filled with love and quality work.
Chris Brown already has a bunch of tattoos, but much like assault charges, he’s still find room for more. The “Look At Me Now” and “Beautiful People” artist/girl punch/Drake fighter recently got two new tattoos in a ten day span, and both of them are a bit ridiculous. First up, he went and got his neck inked; it’s a nicely done tattoo, but we’re not really sure we get it, seeing as “it” is “an Indian Cheif tranforming into a wolf”. Is it supposed to be a representation of the two sides of his personality? Well then the wolf almost makes sense (we would’ve gone with hyenna), but that would mean that the other side of Chris is…in charge of a tribe? Wise? Owner of a casino? It’s really a mixed message. The other new tattoo, which appears to be on his back or forearm is a little more straight forward, but just as dumb; it’s Brown himself wearing a painter’s mask. It’s called “The Bandit” and represents his new love of art. Whatever man, way to put yourself on yourself un-ironically… what a nerd.
Alright folks, so this isn’t the first time we’ve told you about a member of the Jersey Shore cast getting inked, but it’s the first time we’ve told you about JWoww getting tattoos…since the last time we told you about JWoww getting tattoos. Either way, adding to the collection of ink that we’ve already told you about, the Jersey girl has two new big pieces on her body. First she got the one on her right shoulder while she was in Italy; it’s a tribute to her grandma. It’s a nice tribute piece that features praying hands and a cross, as well as the words “RIP” and “OMA” (that’s what she called her grandma). After that came her most recent work, a huge tiger on her right hip that’s meant to act as the second half of a yin-yang/good-evil symbol; the first half being the big dragon she has on her ribs. This piece is also well done, and sits well on her body. JWoww is pretty heavily inked at this point, but all of her work is well placed and all of it looks great on her. We don’t see her getting too much more done, as she’s running out of prime real estate and doesn’t seem like she wants to move onto her arms.
We’re not completly sure if we’re ready to refer to one of the stars of Teen Mom 2 (she wasn’t even on the original cast! She saw how stupid the show and it’s cast were…and still got pregnant and went on the show!) as a celebrity, but one of them got a new tattoo, so let’s talk about it. Kailyn Lowry says that the back piece isn’t finished yet, but it’s already pretty friggin’ extensive. The piece, which is seven sessions deep already, has a caption that reads “to the world you are one person, but to one person you are the world” and features flowers, trees, and rolling hills. It’s aparently going to be some kind of big landscape piece, but we’re not sure if she’s going to extend it into her mid-back more and add a ton of design, or if she’s just going to build on the outline design that she’s got going. She should probably keep it as the outline she has now, because her lack of tattoage elsewhere would make a full back piece look a bit out of place. We’d like to give her more guff about the ink, but it’s not bad work and the message is really nice, so we’ll let her slide. We will however give her guff about being a teen mom; thanks for the new drain on the economy Kailyn, we really needed another one.
The title of this article pretty much sums up what we knew about Sarah Harding before we found out that the recently got a new back tattoo, but once we started to look into the former Girls Aloud group member, we quickly realized that our UK readers absolutely love her! The reality contested turned-bonafide pop-star has a had a ton of hits, and has used the proceeds from them to get a few tattoos, most recently one on her back that says “Don’t be Bitter- Glitter”. She got in the wake of an abuse scandal between her and her former boyfriend; we’re assuming that it’s meant to be inspirational. She also has a small star on the side of her neck (behind her ear), and some Tibetan script on her forearm. She also used to have a small tattoo on her shoulder blade that she recently got removed via laser-surgery. She wears all of her tattoos well, and they fit in well with her glamorous bad girl image.
We can’t help but think that we’d appreciate Kevin Durant’s new tattoo a whole lot more if he wasn’t actually from Maryland; if he was just a big fan of the state for no apparent reason and wanted to show it. With that said, we’re still really impressed with the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar and youngest scoring champion in National Basketball League (NBA) history’s new back piece. We’ve told you before about Durant’s new-found love for tattoos, and his peculiar practice of only getting them in places that can’t be seen when he’s wearing his jersey. Well, Durant has added to his hidden trove of ink by getting a tribute to Maryland (the big “Maryland” across his shoulders), his jersey number (the hands on his back are making a ‘3’ and a ‘5’, he wears number 35), and his religion (the giant angel is pretty self explanatory) covering his back. Durant always gets great ink, and this piece is no different; it’s well done, meaningful, and not-stupid, which for a celebrity, is a major accomplishment.
