Axl Rose’s 80s Tats are Colorful and Sharp

You know the front man for Guns N’ Roses has to have some tattoos. You might expect to see some guns or some roses or both. And yes! he has a big blue rose on one shoulder. Sorry no luck on the guns but what he does have is the Appetite for Destruction logo on his forearm although it has gotten a little faded and blurry and looks like a green blob. We’re glad he chose to get the logo for that album and not the one for The Spaghetti Incident. Also, there is a cool 1980s-looking, big-hair woman on his arm. His tats are sharply done and have some bright red, blue, green and yellow coloring. They mark Axl in his place in time as an 80s rocker and we like it.

Ryan Roberts – Most Tats in Major Leagues

Ryan Roberts, infielder for the Arizona Diamondback, is the MLB player with the most tattoos. He has lost count of how many he has after 30 something and after they started to blend together in a dense blur on his arms. Coming in second is Josh Hamilton, outfielder of the Texas Rangers, with about 26 tattoos. Roberts’ fans have even given him the nickname “Tatman” and he has played well this year helping the Diamondback reach this playoffs after a poor record last year.

My favorite is the Koi fish on his chest, that one is well done. He also has a star branded on his rib cage.

James Hetfield Still Adding Ink Art

metallica-0-james

Although James Hatfield is now 48 years old and has been a rocker for more than 30 years with the heavy metal rock band Metallica he is still adding on new tattoos. Over the years of his arms have been slowly but surely filling in with new ink designs with a lot of them coming more recently, for example, about two years ago he had a new skull done on his neck.

Some highlights are “Carpe Diem”, Jesus, crosses, “faith” on the inside of his arm, playing cards on one shoulder and lots of flames and spider webs.

Dave Navarro – Rocker Tats

dave-navarro-1

As a professional rocker for a long time, Navarro has done what he can to get a good deal of meaningful rocker tats. Starting off with Jane’s Addiction, playing with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and with a whole slew of other big name rockers, Navarro is a top-shelf rocker, however, we have to give his tats a “so-so” ranking. Not too bad, he has some decent ones and has everything done with classic dark ink. He has all the standards in various shapes and sizes – a rose, snakes, spades, stars, crosses, skulls, and Mother Mary. Then there’s “Don’t try this at home” on one arm, dolphins, a unicorn, his deceased Mother’s name on his back – Constance, and a few other unique items.

Ben Affleck’s Tattoos

We all make mistakes when we’re young, even celebrities…especially celebrities. The same gusto it takes to make it big in Hollywood is often the same gusto it takes to say…get some bad ink done when you’re a teen. Take Ben Affleck for example, although he was great in The Town, has movies like Argo coming up, was the bomb in Phantoms, and captivated us all in The Voyage of the Mimi (which we though was a real documentary when we were kids… stupid misleading science teacher); he still found time to get tattoos that he regrets. He’s stated before that he wants to get rid of them, but so far they’re still there, and they include: barb wire (right bicep; although he seems to have covered that up with a new piece), a dolphin (somewhere on his body, it covers up the name of his High School girlfriend),a huge cross (left arm), a fish intertwined with a skull and crossbones (right arm), and the initials “OV” with “MOH NON TE” written above it and “TA OR” underneath it (shoulder blade). That’s some collection, but we have to imagine that if he really didn’t want them anymore, he’d use some of his millions to get rid of them, so he must have some attachment, like that old shirt you won’t throw away, or your grandma.

Benji Madden Shows Off Bright, Colored Tats

benji madden

Benji Madden, the guitarist for Good Charlottte, shows what a little color can do. Know we can see that we don’t have to be stuck with dull black, dark green and blue. Hurray for him. I always wonder why most people choose such colorless tats. It does take a little more time in the salon to get those colors strong and keep them fresh.

Benji is now 32, and his arms are fairly solidly colored – yellow, red, blue, orange and purple. He does have some space on his chest and torso for some more coloring. On his neck is a big praying Mary on one side a big Jesus on the other. On his left arm he has the scene of the Last Supper. He does have some cartoonish tats that I can’t imagine anyone will want to look at for a lifetime but maybe those can be re-worked. And on his back you would never guess who he’s got on there – an enormous Benjamin Franklin. Style points for that. Was it because he was named after old Franklin? But there is no color! Color old Ben in por favor!

Chris Bosh’s Sprawling Mishmash of Back Tattoos

What’s Chris Bosh doing with his downtime from the NBA? He went off to the Caribbean to complete a big mishmash of ink on his back.

Holy Cow what in the Lord’s name has he got going on there? It kinda makes me laugh to think about all the things. An eagle screeching, a bare tree, a zombie skull with smoke coming out of its eye holes, big music notes flying down a tiger’s back or mountains and some old dudes faces. And what is he adding to that? A horror show screaming woman with a skull and the Coliseum? I am sure he could explain the significance of it but I don’t see the rhyme or rhythm. That’s cool though, you don’t always want to see the same old things, its good when art puzzles you sometimes, you can sit there thinking about it for awhile.

Tim Armstrong – Punk Rocker with Skull and Spider Web Tattoos No Less

neck and arms

Tim Armstrong is a punk music legend. Born in Berkely, California in 1965, he’s been part of such acts as Operation Ivy, The Transplants, and Downfall, but he’s most famous as the lead singer and founder of Rancid, which you may remember from the early 90s when they became somewhat well-known (that’s big time for a punk band). He also founded and co-owns Hellcat Records. It should be no surprise that this rocker is covered in tattoos. His biggest and most famous piece is the spider web on top of his head, which he’s had things added to over the years, making it a constant work in progress. He also has extensive work on both arms. The tattoos on his left arm include, a bracelet of skulls on his wrist, the “Hellcat Records” logo on his forearm, a large skull, and a spider web on his elbow; while the tattoos on his right arm include, a big skull on his bicep (which was done to cover his ex wife’s name “Brody”) and large rose on the inside of his forearm. He also has a spider on the left side of his neck, the letters “PUNX” on the knuckles of his left hand, and “U.S. Thugs” on his stomach. He still tours with his various bands and is a fixture in the punk community, so he will probably never stop getting ink, so keep an eye on the ever changing canvas that is Tim Armstrong.

Bow Wow’s Tattoos – Prince of the O-Town

head glasses

Born Shad Gregory Moss in 1987, Bow Wow started out his career at the age of thirteen as “Lil’ Bow Wow”, releasing his first album “Beware of Dog”. He soon entered the acting world with roles in films like “All About The Benjamins” and “Like Mike”, and also soon started entering tattoo shops. He’s tattooed mainly on his arms, but his most prominent piece is on his chest; a script banner reading “Prince of the O-Town”, O-Town refers to Columbus, Ohio where he was raised. Amongst the tattoos on his left arm are a large clown, the letter “B”, and a money bag. On his right arm, he has things like the praying hands of Jesus, a prayer, a vertical line of old English style letters, and a paw print. Scattered around the rest of his body are works that include a rose, dice with flames, dollar signs,  a heart/diamond/spade/club combo, the phrase “Only God can judge me”, his mothers name and face, a flaming skull, and the words, “Boy Wonder”. He seems pretty invested at this point, so it’s only a matter of time before he has two full sleeves and a full back piece, but who can blame him? He likes to get ink, and it’s not like he’s going to get fired from his job…as a rapper…for being too inked up.

Bow Wow those magic tats did nothing to help you in the hoops showdown with Kobe but you might have won the battle of best ink art.

Rihanna’s Tattoos – Stars, Skulls and Scripts

Since hitting it big with her debut single “Umbrella”, hip-hop princess Rihanna (born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in 1988) has been all over the world, and apparently has visited a lot of tattoo shops. By her own admission, she likes to hang out in them, and it shows, as she’s accumulated at least fourteen tattoos all over her young self. So far, she has a music note on her ankle, Pisces sign behind her right ear, a Sanskrit prayer going down her hip, a star in her left ear, the word ‘love’ on her left middle finger, ‘Freedom is God’ in Arabic on her ribs, a trail of stars going down her back, a cute skull with a pink hair bow, the phrase ‘shhh…’ on her right index finger, the date ’4.11.1986′ on top of her left shoulder (her best friend and assistant’s birthday), a henna-style dragon claw,a handgun on her ribs (she got it during the midst of all the abuse stories and rumors about her relationship drama with former boyfriend Chris Brown), “Never a failure, always a lesson” motto in mirror writing, and most recently “rebelle fleur” which means “rebellious flower” in french. She has also been known to put on some temporary ink for performances so if you see something new on her you can never be sure if its temp or perm.
