Michael Phelps’ Tattoos

As if we didn’t have to worry about our girlfriends staring at his stomach enough, Olympic champion Michael Phelps has two tattoos on his man-kini line (life long goal of working “man-kini” into an article: check). The 14 time Olympic Gold Medalist has the Olympic rings on the right hip, and an “M” for Maryland. Many people often confuse the “M” for that of the University of Michigan, but seeing as how Phelps was born, raised, and still lives in Baltimore County, Maryland, we think it’s a safer bet to assume that the “M” represents the Old Line State (they should really change it to something crabcake related). Seeing as how his image is already tarnished by his bong incident from a few years ago, we don’t think Phelps will be getting any more ink until after the 2012 Olympics. When he does, we’re going to guess that he goes with something on his forearm.

  1. Actually, that is a Michigan “M.” Phelps attended Michigan and still trains there with his coach.

  2. I believe Michael Phelps lives in the City of Baltimore(Locust Point neighborhood) not Baltimore County, as the article says.

  3. His mother also does not live in Baltimore County. She lives in the Federal Hill neighborhood of Balimore City, overlooking the Inner Harbor.

Also, Michael Phelps did some training at the University of Michigan after the 2004 Summer Olympics until 2008 while his trainer, Bob Bowman, was hired as Head Coach there. He returned to Maryland in 2008. While in Michigan, Michael Phelps took a few classes, but he never persued a degree there. That might explain why some people assume the “M” is for Michigan, and not Maryland.

    1. Are you retarded? It’s clearly the “block M” that is associated solely with Michigan. It’s even blue and yellow (maize). It’s pretty common for college students/athletes to get their schools logo tattooed on them, but when have you ever heard of somebody getting a tat of the first letter of the state they lived in? Besides, the only “M” that is associated with Maryland is black and red (university of Maryland). And in case all that is somehow not enough to make it obvious, there are actual news articles with Phelps interviews that state the M is for Michigan.
